Thomas has been hanging out with Grammie Linda the last couple of work weeks. Well he and Grammie don't always see eye to eye. For example....his Dad came to pick him up after work one day, so as Thomas was hugging Me goodbye I suggested he put his iPod into it's carry case to take it out to the car so it didn't get dropped. I had just paid a lot of money to have the faceplate replaced when he'd dropped it in the driveway right before his trip to Turkey and I wasn't looking forward to paying that again. Grammie Linda, always wanting to make sure Thomas knows what great parents he has, says - if that had happened to one of my kids they would have had to pay for it themselves. Well, Thomas is a bright kid and realizes that money doesn't grow on trees and responds how would he be able to get the money. "Well I guess you'd have to get a job!" responds Grammie Linda.

"Wow! That's harsh!" states Thomas.

Talking with Thomas over dinner yesterday, he asked me if I remembered a song he used to sing in Kindergarten. I paused to think. Thomas suggested that the memory might be stored in "a tight corner of my mind".

I labeled lots of things around the house so Thomas would be able to see their names and hopefully get some reading practice. I wish I got his initial response when he first walked in the house, he was VERY excited, running around from one to the next shouting them out, "My Television", "My Amplifier", "My Lego", "My Window"...

You might not be able to tell from these pictures, but Thomas is pretty excited about Christmas this year. He chose the Christmas tree and helped to decorate it, he then insisted we turn off al the lights in the house so he could sit in front of it marveling "This is the most beautiful tree in the World"

OK, had to let you know what Thomas said today.

Upon walking out the front door heading for school, Thomas looks at his pumpkin and starts laughing. He says “look at the faces now! Ha, Ha. Now they look like Grandparents! Isn’t that funny!” And he laughed all the way to the car.

Hmmmm… I wonder which one of you “Grandparents” he was thinking of? Maybe you could each submit a photo and we could compare?

The “hissy cat” always makes Thomas laugh and refer to the time Whinnie freaked out when she got her claws stuck in the chair we were sitting in and she went crazy hissing at us until she finally got loose.

While reading a book on the workings of the body, after the chapter on growing up, Thomas said "I can't wait to grow up". "Why's that?" I asked.

To which Thomas replied: "I want to be a dad and have a son"

My heart almost melted.

"I think that would be fun" he continued ... "but it would be hard".

"Why's that?" I asked.

"It's hard to get kids to do what you want"

On Saturday we took a trip to the park in Hinesburg without knowing that it was Big Truck Day. Thomas had a blast climbing all over the dump trucks, car carrier, fire engine and all the others.

While playing with the Hot Wheels dinosaur track that Grammy Linda gave him:

I thought it was a great opportunity to quiz Thomas on his understanding of the workings of the world. "What makes the car move?" I asked.

"Energy" Thomas replied,

"Very good, where does it get the energy from?".

"From the arrow":

"Yes it does. Where does the arrow get the energy?".

"From the rubber band".

"Exactly, where does the rubber band get the energy?".

"From me".

I thought I was sure to get him with the next one: "Where do you get the energy from?" ... but I was wrong ...

"From the food".

So we understand the basics of energy transfer ... what next?

Yesterday morning while Thomas was on the living room floor playing with his Legos he suddenly turns to me and says:

Well, you know Mom why I never stop moving, even at night when I'm in bed and I keep rolling around and moving my feet and talking?In the winter the nights get longer and longer and because the days are shorter there isn't enough time to get all the energy out of my body and so at night I keep moving because I'm still so full of energy.

A hiccapotamus is a hippopotamus ... that hiccups all the time ... and falls upon his bottomus, HA HA HA HA HA

The hiccupotomus is funny enough ... the explanation is priceless ... but the upon was what truly made this a Thomasism.
